Heading into the 2022 Christmas holidays, we made one last stop in our community for our Land Sale TX Winter WONDERland event at Foundation
Communities. Foundation Communities is a local, homegrown nonprofit. They provide affordable, attractive homes and free on-site support services for thousands of families with kids, as well as veterans, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. They offer an innovative, proven model that empowers residents and neighbors to achieve educational success, financial stability, and healthier lifestyles. They own and operate 23 communities all over Austin and three in North Texas.
More than 1,000 children attend their free after-school and summer learning programs at the on-site Learning Centers right were they live. The children and teens served excel at school and maintain a B+ average or above. Staff works closely with neighborhood schools and teachers to ensure students are meeting their academic goals and provide one-on-one support for the students who need it most. They also actively engage parents in their children’s education by encouraging their participation in the programs focusing on academic success, as well as fun enrichment activities.
We had the idea to bring in a little holiday fun to the students in the after-care program and came up with a way for our special guest visit to be education focused while still tons of fun. Each student in the after-care program rotated through our educational, winter-themed stations where they created their own electric circuits from
holiday lights, explored static electricity with tinsel and pvc pipe, transferred their own artwork onto wax pillar candles and colored a snowman gift bag for their candle to give to someone special in their lives. It was all topped off with a take-home hot cocoa treat, lots of smiles, excitement and high-fives. We all had a blast and think the kids did to. 😉
We were so impressed with the dedication of the after-school counselors and it was clear that the are very special to the children. Thank you to Foundation Communities for allowing us to execute this memorable & special afternoon. We plan to return soon to provide a delicious meal to community residents.
